Betty Gaston is a Senior Philanthropic Advisor for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with responsibility for the major philanthropic donations in the Midwest Region and Texas. Betty joined JDRF in September, 2000 as a member of the Desert Southwest Chapter staff. As Director of the Phoenix Walk to Cure Diabetes, Betty developed the chapter's strategic Walk plan resulting of an increase in revenue of 300%. She was promoted to the JDRF national staff in 2003 and helped to launch the organization’s $1 Billion global campaign “From Research to Reality,” which achieved its goal in 2008. Betty’s extensive travel across the country has resulted in the identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation of significant donations to support JDRF’s mission of funding research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Her many successes are due, in part, to her focus on relationship building and connecting with JDRF’s volunteer constituency.
Prior to joining JDRF, Betty was a volunteer and community leader in San Antonio, Texas. She held senior volunteer leadership positions at a diverse group of non profits such as the Southwest Foundation Forum, Habitat for Humanity, San Antonio Academy, Keystone School, Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, San Antonio Junior Forum and KLRN Public Television station.
Betty has been recognized with several awards for her non profit work and bringing outstanding results in the fundraising arena. Betty volunteers for the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust and Franklin College Switzerland.
