Baroness Caroline Cox of Queensbury, a former member of the British House of Lords and Mother Teresa Award Winner joined HART-US in April for a tour of two Southern US cities, Asheville, NC and Atlanta, GA.

 

During her visit to Atlanta, Lady Cox was joined by her Atlanta Gala Chair, Joanne Chesler Gross and was hosted in the lovely Buckhead home of Kristy and Michael Robison for a Dancing with the HART Stars patron party where all of the Dancing with the HART Stars celebrity dancers were unveiled along with the professional dancers of Daza Dance Atlanta.  The celebrity dancers include: Lesley McLeod, Alex Gross, Liana Terzyan, Ainsley Charles, Daniel Jones, Angela Turner, Su Longman, Stan Mukuro, Junior Glymph, Natalie Allen, Carol Casey, and Lady Cox .

Lady Cox spent several days in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was hosted by Sally Holst, president of Voices of Hope, at a luncheon where Lady Cox and HART-US were presented a check for $10,000 to build capacity for humanitarian efforts while giving voice to the voiceless throughout the world.  Sally was joined by Atlanta community members, Shelly Kyle and Dedra Grizzard and journalist Art Harris. Lady Cox was also honored at a tea for approximately 30 guests at the home of Talin Major, a member of the Armenia Church of Atlanta Women’s Guild. Other activities in Atlanta included a meeting with HART-US Advisory Board member, Carol Wallace and Laura Bush’s Chief of Staff, Charity Wallace. She also met with Susan Baker-Borjeson, a representative of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany, NY who flew to Atlanta to meet Lady Cox during her US visit to discuss the Diocese interest in mission trips with Lady Cox and HART-US to Nigeria.  Lady Cox also was hosted by the British Consul General, Annabelle Malins and World Affairs Council of Atlanta members, Cedric Suzman and Wayne Lord at CARE, an International humanitarian aid relief organization based in Atlanta, www.care.org where she spoke to CARE’s senior staff addressing the issues facing smaller humanitarian aid relief organizations like HART-US.

Lady Cox also visited Vince Thompson and his team from Melt ATL, www.meltatl.com to develop the vision for a marketing and communications video to highlight the humanitarian efforts of Lady Cox and HART-US, www.compoundfoundation.org. While in Atlanta, Lady Cox also had tea with Grammy nominated recording artist Ne-Yo’s Compound Foundation, to discuss a future collaboration with HART-US and one of Lady Cox’s foster care projects in Uganda.

Before Arriving in ATL, Lady Cox was a featured speaker on Resurgent Islam and the Gospel at the New Wineskins Conference in Asheville, NC, www.newwineskins.org. Over 600 attendees met to equip clergy, lay leaders, youth ministers, mission mobilizers, and potential missionaries to use provide aid in needed areas around the world. While there, Lady Cox gave the keynote address for the Anglican Relief and Development Fund’s annual board meeting, Also during her time in Asheville, Lady Cox and HART-US President Lee Miller had the pleasure of joining the 2009 North Carolina Philanthropists of the Year, Lisbeth and Don Cooper, at their Cooper Riis Mental Health Healing Community, www.cooperriis.org. Lady Cox and Lee witnessed the great work the Coopers are providing at Cooper Riis; a place where individuals with mental illness and emotional distress learn new ways to improve functioning, gain independence and attain fulfillment in life through a comprehensive program that addresses mind, body and spirit.

In May, Lady Cox returned to the US to receive the American Freedom Alliance’s Hero of Conscience Award which was presented to Cox at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. She was joined by HART-US President, Lee Miller and her US Host Diane Namm. While in California, Lady Cox spoke about living a purposeful life at a luncheon with about 40 guests at the Beverly Hills Montage Hotel.  The luncheon was hosted by HART-US Board and Advisory Board Members Cameo Wallace, Carol Wallace, Cynthia Burleson and Pam Metherell. These generous ladies also hosted a dinner later the same evening in honor of Lady Cox and her work.

 

In June, HART-US President, Lee Miller, HART-US Advisory Board member, Peggy Ellis, and supporters Talin Major, Vera Nercessian and Jane Ellis joined Lady Cox in London for tea at the House of Lords.  Lee then joined Lady Cox for her 70th visit to Armenia and Artsakh, where they met with  the Presidents of both Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, other prominent government leaders, and Bishops and Archbishops of the historic churches in the area. They also witnessed a demonstration of how HALO, www.halo.org removes land mines in Nagorno Karabakh, visited theArmenian Genocide Museum-Institute and the memorials to the fallen and missing soldiers, joined the brave pilots and their wives at a barbecue and dinner, enjoyed a photo exhibit of the Armenian Ambassador to the UK, were hosted by Zory Balayan at a formal banquet, attended by the gracious First Lady of Armenia, and visited the Lady Cox Rehabilitation Centre where they met with staff and patients and were brought up to date on the accomplishments of the Centre’s visionary Director, Vardan Tadevosyan.    While in Armenia and Artsakh, Lee presented donations from HART-US donors to the families of the fallen pilots and to the Lady Cox Rehabilitation Centre.
