J. Edward "Ed" Wilson, Treasurer

Ed Wilson retired on January 1, 2007 after 12 years employment with the Columbus Consolidated Government. He was Executive to Mayor Bob Poydasheff for the four years immediately prior to his retirement, and during the eight years before that he served in a similar role with Mayor Bobby Peters. Before his government service Ed was involved in Columbus media for approximately 25 years. He has done news and commentary on radio and television, and in print. His best-known role in Columbus media was in talk radio, specifically his long-running call-in programs, "What's Your Answer?" and “Talkline.” Ed also is experienced in the printing trade and has served at various times as a writer and editor.

His first career after graduation was a pastoral and evangelistic ministry in which he served churches in North and South Dakota, Indiana and Alberta, Canada. He is an Adjunct Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Columbus. Ed was a founding Board member of One Columbus, Inc., an organization whose sole objective is to foster inter-cultural, interracial unity in Columbus. He was also a founding board member of Voyage of Discovery, Inc., a nonprofit group that promotes sustainable tourism and recreation in the watershed of the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee and Flint rivers. Voyage of Discovery is now called RiverWay South, Inc.

Ed was born in Michigan and received his bachelor’s degree from Andrews University in that state. His wife, Sidney, is an artist and educator, retired from employment with the Muscogee County School District, which serves Columbus public schools. They are parents of three sons and two daughters, and have four grandchildren.
